Buses and taxis for exploring the New Romney area without driving or cycling!
If you feel like a visit to a pub, or just don't want to worry about driving or cycling, there are bus and taxi services around the area directly accessible from Romney Meadows Caravan Park. We are proud winners of the Tripadvisor Traveller's Choice Best Of The Best Award 2022.
Although the Kent countrywide doesn't have the transport services of a city, there are still plenty of convenient ways to get around and explore the area without a car or bike. We do recommend planning in advance if you plan to be out later in the evening as bus services mostly run during the day, and sometimes taxis can all be booked out. You can find some bus timetables and route maps in our gallery
New Romney Bus Services
Our local bus service is run by Stagecoach Buses whose bus service runs directly outside the campsite; it's a hail-and-ride service so you don't need a bus stop, just wave it down as it passes by! We highly recommend downloading the Stagecoach App for buying tickets and planning your journey.
Route 100 is a new bus route from New Romney to Rye and Hastings which passes by Camber Sands, a popular beach in the area.
Route 11 ends at Lydd Army Camp, but the bus continues onto the next route, taking it in a loop along the coast to Dungeness, Greatstone, Littlestone, and New Romney, before heading to Ashford. Please note that bus number 11 does not return back past the campsite after it has gone through New Romney. You must alight in New Romney and walk back to the campsite over the public footpath.
Bus 102 - You also have the option in Lydd to change to the 102 coastal bus which runs to Camber and Rye in one direction, and Dymchurch, Hythe, and Folkestone in the other. You can also catch this bus route in New Romney which is a 15 minute walk from the caravan park.
You can see the timetable for the route 100, 11 and 102 coastal bus route by clicking on this link.
New Romney Taxi Services
For a more direct service which runs much later than the buses, we have a number of taxi companies in the area which can pick you up and drop you off directly at the caravan park. We strongly recommend booking taxis in advance for both directions of your journey; there are far fewer taxis available in rural areas so it's best to book in advance and avoid a long wait, or not being able to get one!
These are a few of the popular destinations nearby to pick up supplies or a nice meal, and approximate taxi fares. (in summer 2022)
New Romney village is a 15-20 minute walk but just a few minutes by taxi (please check price on booking). The village has a small supermarket and a Sainsburys Local as well as some great pubs and places to eat, with some of the most recommended places being Diamond Turkish BBQ, Cinque Port Arms the Ship Inn Hotel, and The Pilot in Dungeness.
